Net electricity imports of Ukraine in 2024
Ukraine’s electricity imports have become a crucial buffer for the country’s energy system but are constrained by the imposed import cap. Until the end of November 2024, imports to Ukraine reached the maximum capacity of 1.7 GW in only 0.63% of total hours.
To fully leverage the potential of cross-border electricity flows, it is essential to ensure the efficient usage of cross-border transmission lines. Eventually, Ukraine’s electricity import limit must be lifted to enable full integration into the European energy market. As of December 2024, the cap was raised to 2.1 GW, marking a step towards greater flexibility and security of supply.
