GDU at VCT STATEMENT: Nexus Thinking – Energy, Future, and Sustainability in Austria and CEE Regions

On September 13th, 2024, GDU’s Energy & Climate Training Programs Officer, Alisa Schubert, took part in the panel VCT STATEMENT: Nexus Thinking – Energy, Future, and Sustainability in Austria and CEE Regions.

This year's theme, "Energy", explored strategies to enhance energy resilience and sustainability in Central and Eastern European (CEE) regions in the face of these contemporary challenges.

Ms. Schubert participated in the discussion on Ukraine’s energy crisis, highlighting the challenges caused by the ongoing conflict, including the shortage of skilled workers in the energy sector due to displacement. She emphasised the need for local capacity building and the importance of localised and renewable energy solutions for both survival and long-term sustainability. She concluded by noting that while Ukraine's energy situation is about survival, there is an opportunity to rebuild in a more resilient and sustainable way.

We are grateful for ERSTE Stiftung's invitation and looking forward to the next steps in our partnership.
