Georg Zachmann Participated in European Parliament Hearing on Energy Affordability and Sovereignty
On 25 June 2025, Georg Zachmann, Scientific Lead of the Green Deal Ukraїna project, took part in a public hearing of the European Parliament’s ITRE Committee on the topic: "Energy affordability, sovereignty, efficiency and transparency: way forward for the EU".
The hearing gathered Members of the European Parliament and leading experts to explore current challenges and opportunities in shaping a more resilient, affordable, and transparent European energy system. Topics included scaling up energy efficiency, integrating renewables, enhancing cross-border cooperation, and securing Europe’s energy sovereignty.
Georg Zachmann contributed to the panel by outlining how improved coordination of electricity system planning and market integration can reduce costs, drive investment, and strengthen long-term resilience. He also stressed the need to avoid fragmented national approaches and highlighted the potential gains from building a joint, efficient energy system across the EU.
