Last week, Green Deal Ukraїna project participated in the European University Institute Climate Week 2026 in Florence dedicated this year to "Transition in Times of Geopolitical Pressure".

GDU Project Leads Dr Susanne Nies and Dr Georg Zachmann joined discussions with representatives from European institutions, academia, industry, think tanks, and international organisations on key developments in European climate and energy policy under rapidly changing geopolitical conditions.

As part of the program, Dr. Susanne Nies participated as a speaker in the invitation-only session "How to Gradually include EU Candidate Countries in the EU ETS?", alongside representatives of the Energy Community Secretariat and the European University Institute.

The discussion focused on Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans, addressing pathways for gradual integration into the EU ETS, the role of the Energy Community, and broader questions related to Europe’s energy transition, enlargement, and decarbonisation agenda.

Organised annually since 2022 by the European University Institute, the EUI Climate Week has become an important European platform for discussions on climate, energy, industrial transformation, and EU policy developments.
