Next important step in the development of the Kyiv Energy and Climate Lab (KECLab)

Yesterday in Kyiv, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy signed Memorandum of Understanding with leading Polish institutions – Forum Energii, our GDU partner, the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute (IOŚ-PIB), and AGH University of Krakow – expanding the international cooperation around KECLab into a trilateral Polish–German–Ukrainian initiative. The MoU was signed under the patronage of the Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domański, CFA.

KECLab originated from the cooperation between Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), formalised through the signing of an MoU in June 2025. In November 2025, KECLab was officially established at NaUKMA as a joint scientific and educational centre focused on energy and climate.

The involvement of Polish partners marks an important new phase for the initiative and reflects the trilateral spirit of the Green Deal Ukraїna (GDU) project. Together, the partners aim to strengthen cooperation in energy and climate research, policy analysis, energy system modelling, and capacity building in support of Ukraine’s energy transition, resilience, and EU integration.

At a time when energy security and regional resilience are becoming increasingly interconnected across Europe, cooperation between Ukrainian, Polish, and German institutions is more important than ever.

We look forward to developing joint research activities, analytical tools, and educational programmes – including the training of the next generation of energy and climate experts through KECLab.
