Ukraine’s EU Accession Through Climate and Energy: Insights from the Florence Workshop
Kyiv Energy and Climate Lab (KECLab), National University of Kyiv-Mohyla AcademyForum Energii and Green Deal Ukraїna spent two days in European University Institute for an EUI climate workshop on the EU accession of Ukraine:
Climate and Energy. Dr Olha Poliukhovych, Vice President of NaukMA explained the rationale of the Kyiv Energy and Climate Lab, established jointly with Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
Jos Delbeke presented the need for a transition approach and creativity in Brussels, when it comes to the introduction of the ETS and climate policy in Ukraine.
Like GDU analysis also shows complementary measures such as the modernisation fund or the application of article 6 are crucial.
Johanna Mair, Director of the school for transnational governance, shared her experience on institutions.
We participated in the lecture of the Polish foreign minister Sikorski and could ask him whether a light accession for Ukraine would be his choice.
We met with Erik Jones to discuss the widening of the EU and the need for a different approach, starting with membership and defining conditionalities all the way through membership, as the current approach of enlargement has failed.
We will work on those matters.
We discussed with @Leonardo Meeus, director of the prestigious Florence School of Regulation next steps on our collaboration, that lasts already for three years and is highly successful, with more than 300 participants from Ukraine and Moldova trained on energy.
Thanks so much to Joanna Pandera PhD, charismatic and sharp leader of our partner Forum Energii, and part time professor at EUI, as well as to Danylo Moiseienko, for making this happen.
