Central-Eastern and South-Eastern European countries have expressed concerns about an increase in domestic electricity prices, attributing this in part to (increasing) electricity exports to Ukraine. However, using a regional electricity system model, Georg Zachmann. Frank Meißner, Robert Carr found that strong Ukrainian electricity imports had only a modest impact on regional electricity prices, explaining only a fraction of the price increases observed in the region. Even under scenarios of stronger exports to Ukraine, our analysis suggests that this dynamic remains largely unchanged.
