This paper explores grid solutions that can contribute to improving the security of the electricity supply in Ukraine. The focus is on actions that help to meet the power demand of the country in the next two winters. 

The energy crisis in Ukraine urges practical steps to foster stronger electricity links between Ukraine and its Western neighbours. Ensuring the availability of much higher imports from the EU as fast as possible can provide essential support to Ukraine as it faces the severe consequences of Russian attacks on the energy system, among other areas of action to reduce the power deficit. Our paper identifies six grid options that can be implemented relatively swiftly if there is political will and a constructive approach of key technical stakeholders and sound coordination of both.
