Household with District Heating as a Share of Total Households (%) - 2021
Compared to most other EU countries, Ukraine has a high share of households connected to district heating. More than 30% of Ukrainian households have district heating, compared to an average of 12% across the EU, according to the European Commission.
This relatively high proportion in Ukraine is largely driven by large, densely populated urban centres, such as the capital city Kyiv (99%) and Donetsk (41%). In contrast, rural or mountainous regions such as Zakarpattia (0%) and Ivano-Frankivsk (10%) show much less reliance on district heating.
